Our Impact
Our programs have helped refugee and new migrant women build careers, earn income and participate fully in Australian life.
Our employment and training initiatives create pathways that start with building workplace skills and end with pathways to employment. Participants gain experience in sewing, retail and textile design, while contributing to sustainable local manufacturing.
Every role and training place is designed to address specific barriers to work, from lack of local experience to limited professional networks. By combining tailored support with paid opportunities, we help women establish the skills and confidence to secure ongoing employment.
Community Engagement
Introductory classes and creative projects connect participants to our community and give a first taste of sewing, craft, and design. These experiences not only develop creative skills but also help in building relationships and fostering meaningful social connections.
Skills Training & Programs
Structured sewing and retail programs build technical skills, confidence, and readiness for
work. Participants develop sewing techniques on industrial machines while also gaining an
introduction to workplace routines and expectations.
Paid Work Experience
Short-term, supported roles in our workroom or retail store provide local experience and
earned income.
Employment
Ongoing roles at The Social Outfit or with industry partners, with continued support to
progress in a career.

We have trained over 1350 outcomes and created over 125 jobs for refugee and new migrant women in Sydney, and we are not stopping there.
